Pastor’s Corner – November 18th

HAVE YOU SAID THANK YOU?

“AND ABRAHAM CALLED THE NAME OF THAT PLACE JEHOVAHJIREH (THE LORD WILL PROVIDE): AS IT IS SAID TO THIS DAY, IN THE MOUNT OF THE LORD IT SHALL BE SEEN (PROVIDED).” (GEN.22:14)

WE HAD A GREAT TIME AT DISNEY WORLD 2 YEARS AGO WITH SOME MUCH NEEDED FAMILY TIME. I SEEN SOME AWESOME THINGS AND SOME AWFUL THINGS. I’M THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT OBSERVES PEOPLE AND ONE THING THAT I NOTICED DURING THAT WEEK, IN ALL THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND FAMILIES WE ENCOUNTERED WHILE EATING LUNCH OR SUPPER, NOT ONCE DID I SEE ANYONE, NOT ONE, BOW THEIR HEAD AND GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD FOR THE FOOD PROVIDED! WHICH BRINGS ME TO THANKSGIVING AND BEING THANKFUL. I READ A STORY THAT FOR THREE DAYS IN THE FALL OF 1621, THE FIRST PILGRIMS IN THE PLYMOUTH COLONY IN MASSACHUSETTS CELEBRATED WILDLY IN THE ABUNDANCE OF THEIR HARVEST AND GAVE GREAT THANKS TO THE LORD! ONE MAN IN THE GROUP WROTE, “AND ALTHOUGH IT BE NOT ALWAYS SO PLENTIFUL AS IT WAS AT THIS TIME WITH US, YET BY THE GOODNESS OF GOD, WE ARE SO FAR FROM WANT THAT WE OFTEN WISH YOU PARTAKERS OF OUR PLENTY.” FROM THAT TOUGH AND THREATENING BEGINNING IN 1621 UP TO THIS WEEK. WITH THANKSGIVING DAY HAS COME THE MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE, THE BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING (WHICH I WILL PAY DOUBLE BEFORE I WOULD FIGHT THOSE CROWDS) AND THE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING SEASON, HOURS AND HOURS OF FOOTBALL ON TV, FOOD AND FOOD AND DESSERTS AND DESSERTS AND MANY OTHER THINGS BASICALLY WITHOUT ANY REFERENCE TO “THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD JESUS.” LISTEN TO ME, GOD IS MY PROVIDER! AND WHILE HE PROVIDED FOR THOSE PILGRIMS AT PLYMOUTH, I’M REMINDED IN SCRIPTURE OF MOUNT MORIAH IN CANAAN WHERE THE LORD PROVIDED A RAM AS A SACRIFICE AND SUBSTITUTE SO THAT A MAN BY THE NAME OF ABRAHAM MIGHT SPARE HIS SON ISACC’S LIFE. YOU KNOW THE STORY AND ABRAHAM NAMED THAT PLACE JEHOVAH—JIREH—THE LORD WILL PROVIDE AND GAVE THANKS TO THE LORD. THIS WEEK ON THANKSGIVING DAY WILL YOU TAKE THE TIME TO GIVE THANKS TO OUR LORD JESUS FOR HIS BOUNTIFUL PROVISIONS IN YOUR LIFE? MAKE SURE NOT JUST ON THANKSGIVING DAY OR SUNDAY MORNING SERVICES –BUT EVERYDAY MAKE SURE IT’S THE LORD WHO IS THANKED AROUND YOUR TABLE AND EVERYWHERE ELSE YOU MAY BE! SOMEONE ONCE SAID, “THANKSGIVING IS A GOOD THING BUT THANKSLIVING IS EVEN A GREATER THING!”

GIVING THANKS FOR EACH ONE OF YOU AND OF ALL OUR LORD’S BLESSINGS!
LOVE IN CHRIST!    PASTOR MIKE
